Delon Armitage set to make comeback for England in Rugby World Cup 2011- Rugby News
The English full-back, Delon Armitage, is ready to make his comeback into his national side after an absence of 17 months from International rugby. Armitage has missed a number of international matches due to shoulder and other injuries and he is now set
to assert his position among the final English squad for Rugby World Cup 2011.
Delon Armitage played his first international match for England against Wales and remained impressive with his run. Talking to the reporters on August 7, Armitage said that he wants his full-back’s shirt back from Ben Foden.
The 27-year-old full-back has represented his national side on 19 occasions and has remained highly successful with his defending techniques. He made his international debut for England back in 2008 against Pacific Islanders after their regular full-back
Mathew Tait was ruled out of the team due to injuries.
Armitage was rated as an outstanding prospect for England just after a few games with his side. In fact, English team manager, Martin Johnson, described him as a great player after his maiden performance for his team.
Delon Armitage has also been playing for London Irish club since 2008 and has produced remarkable performances for his team. Apart from rock solid defence, he has elevated the club with 213 points including number of valuable tries.
Talking to the reporters on August 7, Armitage said that, “I felt like I missed a lifetime of rugby, but I am back now and ready to go. I have got that hunger again. I really want to be involved for England. I am pushing Ben. I want that shirt back and he
knows it. When I saw the 15 jersey hanging up it brought back some awesome memories. I love playing rugby, I love playing for England.”
Martin Johnson also admitted his role in England’s impressive win against Wales and said that, “Delon is a Test match player. If he is in good form he is putting pressure on everyone in the back three. I am glad he has gone well.”
England defeated the Welsh side by 23-19 on Saturday, August 6, to win the first three warm-up matches scheduled to be played before Rugby World Cup 2011.
