Delonte West’s suspension revoked by Dallas Mavericks, will practice with team on Wednesday – NBA News
A day after suspending guard Delonte West for conduct detrimental to the team, the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday decided to waive his suspension, making him available to practice and play with the team. West had a meeting with Head
Coach Rick Carlisle and President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh, during which his issue was discussed and it was later decided to bring him back from suspension.
Sources have informed that West was suspended due to an outburst in the team locker room on Monday after the Mavericks 123-104 victory over the Houston Rockets in a preseason game. West struggled to get going in that game, finishing
with 2 points 2 assists and 1 rebound in 16 minutes of playing time.
West will now join the team on Wednesday when they do a shoot around practice, and will be available to play for the Mavericks preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. West, who is an eight year veteran to the league, joined the
Mavericks before the start of the last season, and proved to be a valuable addition to the team. He averaged 9.6 points and 3.2 assists in his first season for the Mavericks, and proved to be a great defender in the backcourt. He is regarded as a great hustle
player and defender who can guard both the one and two spots.
West is important to the Mavericks 2012-2013 campaign, as he is one of the few backcourt players currently in the Mavericks roster, who is aware of the team philosophy and plays. The Mavericks lost both Jason Terry and Jason Kidd
in the offseason, as the two established players decided to pursue their career elsewhere after it became clear that the Mavericks were not adding any big pieces to the team and would not be in title contention next season.
Carlisle is a fan of West, particularly his energy and commitment towards the team, and was a main reason why the Mavericks decided to bring him back for one more season during the summer. He still believes that West is a crucial
and important player for the Mavericks, although he sometimes get carried away with his competitive spirit.
"I love him as a kid. I love the fact that he faces challenges day to day and he meets them head on and he's honest. He and I talk a lot. It's a relationship that isn't always smelling like roses, but we manage to grow because
we're talking all the time. It's important that I always hear what he has to say because he's a knowledgeable guy. Sometimes he's got to listen to me. Sometimes he's not crazy about it, but that's just the way it is,” said Carlisle a few weeks ago.
