Delphine Lansac claims Women’s Singles title in Yonex Polish International Junior Championships 2012
France’s Delphine Lansac has delivered a stunning performance as she has claimed Women’s Singles title after beating the higher ranked Viktoria Varabyova of Russia in the final showdown of Yonex Polish International Junior Championships 2012, on Sunday,
January 22, in Poland.
Delphine, who was un-seeded in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, proved her mettle against the top seed Viktoria and won the fight in straight games. She consumed only 27 minutes to hammer her rival and claimed her first title in current year.
The French shuttler delivered phenomenal performance in the opening game and bagged it with a one-sided margin.
In the second game, Delphine again proved that her first-set victory was not a fluke as she again overpowered her rival by taking the game with a 21-18 score on the board.
Viktoria was heavy favourite for this final contest of Polish Open as she was up against an un-seeded shuttler. But she got a severe treatment from Delphine in opening set of the match and remained far behind on points table until the 60-second break.
After the interval, the spirited French lady continued her aggressive run in the first set and did not let her higher ranked challenger to fight back in the game.
Viktoria could not control the pace of rallies and executed many negative shots which helped her French opponent to stretch her lead. Delphine remained in complete control and ended the game with an incredible 21-13 score on the board.
In the following game, Viktoria changed her game plan and played parallel badminton to restrict her rival in a defensive position.
However, the top seed could not manage a good lead as her rival also played positive game. Until the break, both ladies were close on the score board.
After the break, both shuttlers again locked horns and played remarkable badminton until the ending points.
At this stage, Delphine showed her spirit as she played with wonderful aggression and managed to win the second set with a three-point difference of 21-18.
Delphine won this 27-minute final contest in straight games with a comprehensive 21-13 and 21-18 score on the board.
