Delta Downs Jackpot contestants gathering at Louisiana to lock horns for the $1 million purse
On 19 November, 2011, Vinton, Louisiana will hold the richest and the most important race for 2-year-olds at its famous racecourse, the Delta Downs. The race itself holds a purse of $ 1million and it is called the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot.
The juvenile participants and their connections would be wrapping up the travel arrangements to get to Delta Downs before the race and possibly turn in a work or two before the massive race right at the end of the year.
The 1 1/16 mile event has reeled in eleven horses, that will look to go past the entry box but only ten will break from the gate to compete for the massive purse.
The competition is intense and it gets more ominous for the unknown runners when they know among them is the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity winner Drill, who is scheduled to fly from his home base to Louisiana today.
Bob Baffert apart from Drill would be sending in So Brilliant as well who went on to break his maiden on 22 October, 2011, at Santa Anita Park over at six furlongs under jockey Martin Garcia. So Brilliant on dirt covered the distance in 1 minute and 9.02 seconds.
Another prospect for the Delta Downs Jackpot is the Tim Ice trainee, No Spin, who is coming off a win in the Royal Glint Stakes on turf at Hawthorne race course at about a mile on 29 October, 2011.
After breaking his maiden the son of Johannesburg, out of mare Dash for Money by General Meeting, No Spin tried his luck in the graded stakes event, but couldn’t manage a single on the money finish in both attempts.
Though he ran a good race against a formidable caste in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity at Arlington Park, where he finished fourth to winner Shared Property. Take Charge Indy and Motor City finished second and third, respectively.
Doug O’Neill trained Basmati and Jerry Hollendorfer trained Longview Drive will accompany Drill when they fly off from Southern California to Shreveport, Louisiana, on 16 November, and then from Shreveport they will take a van to Shreveport to Vinton.
