My flight schedule has changed slightly. I use to have about 2 hours to get on my connecting flight, but with the changes it's close to an hour. I'm worried now that if there is a delay with my first flight, i will not make the second one. This is to Japan so flights aren't as frequent as domestic for me to be rebooked on. I'm also meeting friends coming on another flight in Japan 45 minutes after my plane lands.

I sent an email to Delta and they said i need to call in because my ticket needs to be 'revalidated'. What does that mean and what do they do?

  1. Re-validation is simply the process of updating the electronic ticket to reflect the schedule changes to the itinerary. Once you reach a call center agent it should only take a minute or so.  If you are worried about your reduced connection time this would be the time to discuss it with the agent as they can make changes at this point with no fees charged to you as this is an involuntary change resulting from a change in their schedule.  An hour should still be more than enough time to make your connection but you can ask the agent about the on-time percentage of your first flight to see if it is historically late.  Airlines are required to release this information to you.

  2. it just means to change the details on your ticket to reflect your new schedule
