Delzangles’s trainees finished third in two different races at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012
Hermival’s trainer, Mikel Delzangles, was pleased with his performance in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes (204th Running) (British Champions Series), which took place at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012 as he stood third at the end
of the race.
Due to his solid finish in this mega-event, the son of Dubawi, out of mare Bibi Karam, is likely to have a promising future. Delzangles was satisfied with how he performed as he stated to the press:
"It was a pity he was not in the main group, but he still ran very well. He has come out of the race fine and we now need to decide whether to stay at a mile in the Irish Guineas, or step up for the French Derby. We will have to pick one of those races
as I don't think we can do both."
The young runner, who is currently under the ownership of H. H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani landed a victory in his career maiden - which took place in November, 2011.
The bay colt defeated race favourite, Lunayir, narrowly in the Prix As D'Atout (Maiden) (Unraced 2yo Colts & Geldings) at Saint-Cloud.
He finished third in the race that followed, as he lost by 1 ¾ lengths to French Fifteen in the Prix Djebel (Group 3) (3yo Colts & Geldings) at Maisons-Laffitte in April, 2012.
It seemed that Mikel Delzangles was having a particularly good day, as luck was working in favour of his trainees.
Dunaden, owned by Pearl Bloodstock Ltd, also secured third place in the Qatar Bloodstock Jockey Club Stakes the same evening.
The six-year-old horse finished 1¼ lengths after the runner-up, Quest For Peace.
The trainer was delighted and pleased with how he performed as he stated that:
"I was very happy with his run - it was a very good comeback. He blew a bit after the race and I think he will improve a lot.”
Delzangles commented that the future looked bright for Dunaden, and he is likely to compete in the Coronation Cup at Epsom or the Grand Prix de Chantilly.
