I mean look at it Politicians do not get to make decisions on what they deem fair they have to constantly play to the crowd.

Like when MP's decide on things such as whether to reintroduce the death penalty The politicians vote what they want not what their constituents want.

  1. Nothing works coz we are humans and its in our nature to just balls everything up.

    good in theory.

    totally doesnt work.

nothing will! what is the world coming too?!! argh

    x*x

  2. There needs to be more independent scrutiny. Awarding your own pay and willy nilly expense accounts for property development is a shambles.

  3. I think a democracy is the best kind of government,  because it really does give the people more of a voice than any other form of government. It's only not fair because of the idiotic people we have elected to rule us. They're greedy. It takes a lot to get a bill passed to a law, but think about it....isn't that the way it should be? I mean, otherwise, silly and potentially harmful laws could be passed if we didn't have the strict path a bill has to follow. But I mad that it's officially legal for citizens to carry guns. That's just not right...

  4. Its fair, but its the least efficient system. You never get squat done. If you want results you have to make sacrifices.

  5. Native indigenous people had it the best way. Live off the land and take care of it.

  6. How about this as a test?  In our country, transfer of power from one congressman to another, from one president to another, occurs smoothly, without bloodshed.  We may or may not like the choice who is inaugurated, but we move from administration to administration peacefully.  It has been this way for nearly 250 years.  Compare this to any totalitarian government in the world and I believe you must conclude that though democracies are not perfect, they work well and are in fact, the best form of governance.

  7. True democracy is fair.  American "democracy" is not.

  8. Yep.  Democracy is the best of a bunch of horrible systems of governement.  Democracy is where the majority step all over the minority that cant outvote them.

  9. I agree completely. If politicians do not represent the will of the people, then it is not democracy - it is oligarchy. And how many times has a political party been voted in and then completely failed to implement their manifesto (e.g. where is the vote on the Lisbon Treaty?).

  10. Majority rules. Let me know if there is a better system than democracy.

I do not think there is one!

  12. No. Democratic systems have the best chance of being a fair system.

  13. You may have contradicted yourself pointing out that MPs have to play to the crowd but then ignore their constituents when voting in Parliament.

Nevertheless you have a point - Do we elect politicians to decide for us and hope we will agree or do we simply send them to the Commons to go through the "Aye" or Noe" Lobby  as instructed. Then you would not need Parliament. We could do it on the Web.We could vote but could we discuss and reach agreement ?

We will not always agree on what is "fair" because although it should mean reasonable sensible and so on that does not always happen as we cannot always agree.

I would prefer democratic as in something that has an obvious majority behind it.I would make it a law that you cannot make or change a law unless 66% of the voters voted for it.The only problem I can see with that is that you can imagine a whole bunch of unpleasant laws being enacted in a hurry because the Tabloids wound their readership up for a time.I suppose thats where "free votes" in the Commons come in.

    Oh.............. I don't know

  14. why should anybody make decisions for other people?

live your own life is the best form of government

democracy is best way to avoid brutality, but it must be also checked

    there are not three branches of Gvt: Exec, Legislative and Judicial; need to add a 4th and all need to be very advasarial;

straight democracy lets the people get way out of hand

  15. "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
