  1. people being able to do their own things but within the law vs people only caring about themselves

  2. Democracy is made up of individuals, and is the form of government most impacted by the results of individuals. Under a truly democratic society, each individual is responsible for their own successes and failures, and that individual responsibility also gives an overwhelming sense of freedom to create, to invent, to succeed, to be innovative and entrepreneurial, because your individual efforts lead to financial successes that are yours, not the governments. As humans, we are more motivated by our own desire to be rewarded for our efforts if the reward comes directly to us. So, if you notice where the biggest, most world changing innovations came from, its usually from a country that is democratic, and the individual has the right to become rich for their hard work and innovation.

Examples are Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Henry Ford, Rockefeller, Sam Walton, Oprah, and the multitude of movie stars and sports heros who have made billions of dollars in America because they can do something remarkable. Its also evident in the huge number of small businesses that make up the majority of the US economy.

The freedoms we enjoy as Americans is based on our individual responsibility. We still live in the country more people want to come to than anywhere else in the world. Why? Because under our democracy, we have the opportunity to be what we want to be, think what we want to think, and work as hard or as little as we want, and the reward is equal to our efforts. If you don't feel it is, the individual is free to move about the country in search of a better way to live....no one makes you stay in a bad area. The concept of democracy is based on individuals....thinking their own thoughts, voting to elect similar modes of representative government officials, and acting responsibly to ensure the world is a better place tommorrow for the freedoms we enjoy today. With the free economy, there are corrections, like we are facing now....the results of over spending, over borrowing, and living beyond our means. This has happened before, once every few generations, to naturally correct our behavior.
