Democracy or Republic, What was first in the U.S. ?

Actually after looking up the definitions, its pretty close to the same thing. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  1. Depends on whether you claim to be a state citizen of a US citizen. Read any state constitution and you'll see that they are all built on a Republican form of government. Here the people are sovereign both individually and in a collective capacity. They voluntarily form a body politic which dictates to the government what should be done.

    The US Constitution on the other hand gives Congress broad powers over the jurisdiction of the United States – Washington DC, the possessions, territories, military bases, Post Offices. Those who call them selves US citizens are subjects of Congress and are controlled by Congress. Congress on the other hand is controlled by special interests. This is Democracy at its finest.


  2. The occurred at the same time. It is all spelled out in the constitution. I recommend everyone read it occasionally. It's not difficult and it's not long for such a comprehensive document.

  3. Neither. The colonists were still under King James I's rule when they settled.
