There is no doubt America needs to drill for more oil. Without it, oil and natural gas prices will go through the roof in 5 to 8 years. (Oil prices put pressure on natural gas prices.) And even if America cuts back on oil usage it won't help.  Demand for oil in developing countries is increasing far faster than demand for oil in  America..

To Cool Breeze: America's electrical grid cannot handle electric cars. Even if California used just 5% electric cars then the grid would be overloaded.

The Democrats' energy plan includes limited oil drilling, but a large increase in the funding going to the development of energy sources such as wind and solar, not to mention better electric cars.  This is good because it puts America back at the forefront of modern technology and creates jobs for American workers.  While we are making our way toward a future of cleaner energy, we will still have a bridge to get us there.  This will lead to energy independence, more jobs, and renewed integrity for America.

The Republicans' plan, if you saw the convention last night, is "Drill, Baby, Drill."  They give a nod to alternative energy, but they are mainly concerned with continuing the polluting fuel sources of oil and coal.  These sources are limited, and will only put us behind the rest of the world.

as this so called *alternative* energy is not happening in our lifetime

I remember in the 70"s people talking about $5.00 a gallon gas and

it did happen..a shortage...and people did nothing to eleviate the

dependacy on oil

OIL is the lifeblood of the world

I don't see anyone doing anything very radical to stop the oil usage.

The best thing to conserve fuel is to take Al Gore's private jet plane

anway from him..he is wasting our time and money on this Global

Both parties believe that alternatvie sources should be found.

The question is what to do in the meantime.  Repubs want to drill, dems want us all to inflate our tires.

Palin puts Anwar into perspective.  People make us think that drilling in Alaska will wipe out life as we know it in the state.  Anwar is actually a relatively small tract of land.

I think that we need to pursue ALL of our options.  We can't just shut off the valve to oil and expect wind and solar to carry the load.  It just isn't feasible.  We need to drill, we need to build nuclear power plants, and we need to explore every possible other avenue of alternative energy.  In addition this creates jobs and helps our economy.

The most important part of the plan is to reduce our reliance on foreign oil as quickly as possible... and the fastest solution is to drill our own resources, while perfecting some new alternative plans.  

Obama has said no to several different energy options (especially nuclear and drilling.)  He is for alternative energy, but wants to halt oil within our lifetime.  It isn't possible unless you want to see our country fail and fall hard.

God help those who help them selves. We need to increase supply and decrease demand by conserving.

Newt Gingrich said, "Drill here, drill now and save money."

That message alone will drive down oil prices. As soon as we show the rest of the world our resolve here the better our live will be while we also develop all of the other alternative and renewable energy source available here in this country. Finally we as a nation have to buy and consume less energy.

Republicans want to use the resources we have under OUR feet to reduce dependency while alternatives are implemented.

Democrats do not want to do this and have prevented it. However, they usually blame Republicans for our dependence. I think they all drive hybrids.

Drill everywhere we have oil to supply our short term needs.

Invest large amounts of money in research ( and construction of proven alternative energy sources ) to address our long term needs.

The Democrats plan isn't good, because it forgets that we'll still have to have energy for the next 20-50 years until the new technology is ready and in widespread use.
