Question:

Demolition Derby prep?

I want to become a demolition derby driver (hobby). Now I have little experiance in car mechanics, but I've loved racing and demolition derbys all my life. I've been wanted to do this for a couple years now, but I'm 19 and now that I will be graduating high-school really soon I'll have both time and money to do it. But first I have a few questiones:

1) I know I need a fire extinguisher, among a few other tools, what other tools will I need?

2) Is there a site where I could find a mentor (some willing to work with a person with almost no clue on demolition car prep, but is willing to learn)?

3) What are the basics I need to know before going into this hobby?

Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

  1. You need a welder, a torch and a sledge hammer.....

Most classes do not allow you to brace or add extra structual supports. So mostly you will be taking all the glass and plastic out. The goal is to have nothing but metal left. Plastic interior pieces are saftey hazards and can cut you when cracked, you dont want that,,,,
