Question:

Demolition of a Barn?

We have an old barn that we are destroying. Is there any way that we could really get this thing burning quickly? We got all of the tin off of the sides, so it is just a giant slab of wood. I was thinking of simultaneously blowing up the support beams, and lighting the barn from there, but is there a better way?

PS: We do have marshmallows ;)

  1. I'm sure there are better ways , but your way sounds like more fun . It would make for one heck of a fourth of July

  2. bonsai is correct, old wood is very valuable.

Burning, you have to get approval of your local fire department -- ha!

unless you want to wind up in jail.

  3. If the barn is really old and the wood has no dry rot, you can sell it to a wood mill or to somebody, who replaces and repairs old boats or original old houses. Good old wood has a lot of value.

  4. To aid in the idea of salvaging the old wood try contacting a Amish group or family. They have been known to take down a barn and wouldn't have ever known one was standing there, other than the stone walls that were frequently used.
