Tottenham Hotspur’s latest and most dramatic signing of the summer was Clint Dempsey. The American international has revealed the story behind his last minute move to White Hart Lane, saying that the transfer had him on the verge of tears.
The midfielder had been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage for quite some time. The player is in the last stages of his prime, and wanted to seek a move to another club in search of a bigger challenge.
It was no secret that the player had been interested in playing football at the highest level possible. Dempsey himself had talked about his desire to play in the Champions League, and with Fulham, it was not a possibility.
Dempsey had been widely linked with a move to Liverpool, and there had been various reports in the media suggesting that the player had tried to force a move away from Fulham. Other reports claimed that the player had a falling out with Fulham manager Martin
Jol, and was forced to train in isolation due to his disruptive behaviour.
A move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 looked likely on the cards, but never materialized. The player joined Tottenham on deadline day in a dramatic move that no one had anticipated.
Dempsey recently spoke about his transfer and laid rest to speculation that suggested he had a bust up with Fulham and the managerial staff at Craven Cottage. The player admitted his disappointment at how the whole affair was handled and how he was portrayed
in the media.
"I just remember calling my wife and my mom and almost wanting to break down in tears because it was a tough time," the forward told international media.
"Going into that last day and night there were still a lot of question marks. It wasn't clear-cut this was going to happen. Some other things came up and you are going through that struggle, which was not fun for anybody."
"It was difficult for Fulham and for me, not knowing how it's going to end," Dempsey added. "I did not refuse to play. There were some things that were said that were not true."
