New Tottenham signing Clint Dempsey has called his move to White Hart Lane a dream come true, and thanked Fulham for allowing him to leave the club on deadline day.
Spurs made a last minute swoop for the Fulham midfielder in a move that surprised many. There had been no reports, stories or even rumours that linked the player with a move to White Hart Lane.
Dempsey had been linked strongly with a move to Anfield, with the player himself publicly stating his preference for Liverpool. Fulham had however been reluctant to let their player leave, especially after losing Moussa Dembele to Tottenham a few days ago.
It was understood that Fulham had entered talks with Liverpool, but an agreement had not been reached. In the meanwhile, Aston Villa had also expressed their interest in the player, and sources in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 suggested that Fulham had agreed terms with the Birmingham
club, and a move would happen on the last day of the transfer window.
The American international however rejected a move to Aston Villa, and tried forcing a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 by refusing to play for Fulham. Manager Martin Jol had no option but to force the player into training in isolation.
A move away from Craven Cottage looked unlikely, up until yesterday, when Tottenham announced on their official website that they had signed the player. Dempsey believes that Spurs saved him by making a move for him on the last day of the transfer window.
Speaking to the club’s official website in first ever interview as a Spurs player, Dempsey said:
"To play under this Head Coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it and work as hard as I can to get onto the field and do well.”
"I want to thank the fans for everything, some of the best memories I've had in football and thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come from the MLS and compete over here.”
"All I can say is thank-you and now I'm looking forward to the next challenge."
The US international joins Fulham teammate Moussa Dembele in a very impressive Spurs midfield as the North London club target silverware this season.
