Tottenham’s deadline day summer signing Clint Dempsey has revealed the details about his transfer to White Hart Lane and how emotional the move was for him.
The former Fulham ace finalized a £6 million move to White Hart Lane from Craven Cottage during the dying hours of deadline day. No one had anticipated the move as there had been no link between the player and club.
The move surprised many, as Dempsey has been one of the most highly rated players in the Premier League and was an influential and instrumental figure at Fulham. The player had been previously linked with a move with Liverpool, and it was expected that the
American will end up at Anfield when the transfer window closed down.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 had put in a bid for the player’s services as they looked to replace Andy Carroll, who was loaned out to West Ham United. It was understood that Fulham were not willing to part ways with their star player, and made sure that there was no way the
Merseyside club could get their hands on the attacker.
Later, reports surfaced in the media that suggested that the player had a falling out with his club and manager Martin Jol. Other reports claimed that Dempsey was made to train in isolation as he tried to force a move away from Craven Cottage.
Dempsey laid rest to all these rumours when he moved to White Hart Lane, and said that he had been portrayed poorly by the media and was greatly disappointed. However, he said that his move to the North London club was one of the most emotional moments in
his career.
"I almost wanted to break down in tears I was so happy," he said.
The player made his debut for Spurs in the 0-0 draw last week against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 and had a decent performance.
"I was happy with my performance but I know there is more to come and I can play better still," he added. "The good thing about being in a lot of competitions is that there is a chance for squad rotation."
He then spoke about Tottenham’s European prospects and said:
"To be fair, Tottenham deserve to be in the Champions League. They finished fourth, but missed out on a technicality because http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won it. [But] we are still playing some of the best teams in Europe."
