Biden is a superior choice and illustrates McCain's incredibly bad judgment because, when a president is incapacitated or assassinated, the country can be thrown into chaos. What is needed then is an experienced, confident, familiar and REASSURING leader.

Note that, IMO, this type of leader is not necessarily what is needed to lead the country under ordinary circumstances--this is a distinction that many entering this debate do not make. At different points in time, a country needs different types of leaders and leadership.

And this is something McCainites don't get either: the presidency is NOT a "one size fits all" position. First and foremost, the president has to suit the times, and when a vice president becomes the president, those are very, very critical times indeed. When a vice president becomes president, our country is probably at its weakest, its most vulnerable.

This is why I am appalled by McCain's choice and reassured by Obama's. Indeed, I'd argue that Obama did exactly what McCain made so many claims to doing but did NOT: Obama put the country first by choosing a VP not based on his political needs or ideological agenda, but rather based on the kind of replacement leader the country would need should something happen to its president.

This is so clear to me that frightens me that others don't seem to see it.
