Deneen Demourkas satisfied with team’s form in 2012 BMW Farr 30 World Championship
Fourth day of the 2012 BMW Farr 30 World Championship was yet another successful day for the regatta leader Groovederci of Santa Barbara Yacht Club skippered by the reigning World Champion Deneen Demourkas as they were able to stay on the leading podium
place of the regatta.
The team showed great determination from the start of the event and clinched the first position which they maintained until the finish of fourth day proceedings. Groovederci has compiled 22 points after taking part in nine races without any discards.
During their regatta campaign, the team collected four bullets along with some higher finishes to lead the fleet. They have a greater chance of winning the regatta title because the second placed contender, Farr Bar2 skippered by Martin Strandberg is trailing
them by 13 points.
Deneen Demourkas is also quite happy and satisfied with her team’s performance in the event and believes they can win the title quite easily.
Speaking to the local media, Demourkas said, “I’ve been in this class far too long to get complacent at the end of a Farr 30 regatta, even with a nice lead and especially on my birthday. No lead is safe in a place as tricky as Laholm Bay, and as we’ve seen
multiple times already, 13 points can evaporate in the blink of an eye.”
The weather conditions on Laholm Bay were a bit strong and tricky which troubled the sailors but still they managed to make it to the finish line on time in all three races of the day. The fleet is expecting moderate supportive winds on the fifth day.
