http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299 jumps up 20 spots in ICC Test batsmen rankings – Cricket News Update
Despite his recent antics, which have given rise to a storm of controversy, West Indies wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin displayed the most significant progress in terms of rankings, as he moved up from 88 to 68 on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s list of top Test batsmen.
Ramdin’s unbeaten 107 against England at Edgbaston in the final match of the Test series broke through a miserable slump which had seen the batsman scoring a total of 56 runs in the first two matches of the series. The poor form earned his harsh criticism
from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 great, Viv Richards, who claimed (while speaking on BBC Radio after the second Test in Nottingham) that Ramdin’s performances had “deteriorated” in a big way.
After completing his century, the 27-year-old pulled a note out of his pocket, reading “YEH VIV, TALK NAH” written on it, and flashed it towards the pavilion. The unsporting act earned him a 20% match fee fine from the International Cricket Council (for
“conduct contrary to the spirit of the game”), in addition to widespread criticism from figures such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 (West Indies team manager).
Ramdin issued an apology to Sir Richards, who responded by pointing out that a century scored during a lost match was no cause for celebration.
While their 3rd Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 ended in a disappointing draw, the match propelled a handful of West Indies batsmen upwards in the official rankings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441, who only managed a 24, also moved up five spots to number 94, while young opener Adrian
Barath also climbed up 5 places to 69, after scoring a respectable 41.
West Indies’ talismanic veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 retained his top spot on the Test batsmen rankings, despite having missed the third and final Test.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386, however, found himself slipping down the list by 2 spots, to number 24, after scoring a dismal 6 in the Edgbaston Test.
The Windies batsmen will have another chance to move upwards in the rankings in July this year, when they prepare to take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 for a 2-match Test series on home ground.
