Denesh Ramdin’s note-brandishing act prompts further criticism – Cricket News Update
Denesh Ramdin’s act of displaying a written taunt directed at Viv Richards upon completing his century during the West Indies’ third Test against England at Edgbaston, has earned the batsman criticism from all quarters.
“It was very immature and I'm disappointed in him. I wouldn't expect that from a Trinidad and Tobago captain who is in line for leadership of the West Indies team,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760), adding
that the act had been highly embarrassing and shameful.
The 27-year-old, who had only managed a total of 51 runs in the first two Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the ongoing Wisden Trophy, was criticised by West Indies legend Viv Richards for his poor form – while commenting on the matches for BBC radio, the former
Windies batsman claimed that Ramdin’s performance had dropped in a big way.
However, the wicketkeeper-batsman managed to score an unbeaten century on the fourth day of the 3rd and final Test of the series. While celebrating his achievement, he pulled a note out of his pocket and flashed it towards the pavilion – the note,
intended as a comeback to Richards’ criticism, read “YEH VIV TALK NAH”.
“He batted brilliantly, but I agree with Ian Botham who said it removed some of the gloss from the hundred,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davis-c53314 said, adding that the team management needed to have a talk with Ramdin, in order to ensure that such actions would not be repeated in the
future.
Ramdin was fined 20% of his match fee by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Roshan-Siriwardene-Mahanama-c86863.
Meanwhile, team manager Omar Khan also expressed his disappointment over the batsman’s conduct.
“... he should have been more emotionally controlled. His bat had already done the talking and it was not called for at all," Khan said.
“Viv ... would have inspired Denesh to demonstrate his value in the team. The note should have said ‘Thank You, Viv’ instead.”
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 also went on to add that since Ramdin had already apologised and been fined, the management considered the case closed.
