Deng Xuan overpowers Maria Febe Kusumastuti in Women’s Singles first round at Indonesia Open GP Gold
China’s Deng Xuan proved her mettle as she played to her maximum potential and overpowered her higher ranked Indonesian challenger Maria Febe Kusumastuti in Women’s Singles first round at Indonesia Open GP Gold Badminton 2012 on Wednesday, September 26,
in Indonesia.
The talented Deng, who entered into the tournament as a qualifying player, continued her impressive performance in the main round and won the opening contest against the higher ranked Maria who was the fifth seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles draw of the
championship.
The Chinese shuttler put was in excellent form as she displayed highly impressive skills on court and showed exit to the home favourite by winding up the contest in straight sets with a huge margin in just 33 minutes.
Maria, on the other hand, tried her best to play positive badminton but she failed to match the speed and aggression of her Chinese rival and lost the battle without living up to the expectations of her home crowd.
In the first game, it was Deng who played with precision and did not let her higher ranked Indonesian opponent to take control of the pace.
However, Maria managed to show her class as she started to dictate the pace of rallies and took a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, Deng employed all of her skills and kept her rival moving around in all areas. She made the score levelled at 13-13 by putting impressive variations in her shots.
The in-form Chinese shuttler continued her elevated show and managed to claim the opening game with a five-point difference of 21-16.
Deng took an early lead in the second set by playing positive badminton but she could not maintain as her rival played attacking game and drew near until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Deng increased her speed and controlled the pace of rallies. She pushed Maria on back foot while working well at net and ultimately secured the second set with a huge difference of 21-14.
Deng won this Women’s Singles first round in a striking fashion with a convincing 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
