Deng Xuan tames Akane Yamaguchi in Women’s Singles final of 2013 New Zealand Badminton Open
Women’s Singles campaigner Deng Xuan of China emerged as champion after thrashing Akane Yamaguchi in the final round of SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open on Sunday April 14, 2013.
This grand finale remained in full swing for 68 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-17, 18-21 and 22-20.
The Chinese shuttler ruled the court in the opening and ending segments whereas the opposing shuttler could rise only in the second set.
Deng Xuan laid foundation of her dominance immediately in the beginning of first set and maintained that upper hand all the way to final moments.
She showed her intentions in the establishing rallies of opening game and bagged many valuable points without interruption.
The Japanese female shuttler was not prepared for such an intensive invasion and she remained at the lower end in most part of the game.
Things went out of Akane’s hands when Deng Xuan registered a respectable score before the announcement of break.
The latter part of game was also played in similar manner as Deng Xuan completely dominated the overall pace of rallies and piled up a winning figure of 21-17.
However, story was entirely different in next set as the Japanese campaigner managed to revive her lost form and avoided a disgraceful straight-set defeat.
This time Akane played impeccable badminton and served the notice of her dominance. She employed interesting tactics and her rival completely failed to read her strategy.
At first, Akane mounted pressure by prevailing in few consecutive rallies and then doubled the impact with few back-to-back points before interval.
After the one-minute break, she lost focus for a short span of time and allowed her competitor to narrow the gap on points table.
However, she did not take much time to come out of this bad patch. Akane struck hard when it mattered and won this set with 21-18 total.
Third set of the match turned into survival of the fittest war and both contenders made every effort to claim the Women’s Singles trophy.
They remained equal until game point situation and finally this nerve-racking tussle ended when Deng Xuan placed a concluding margin of 22-20.
