Denial Hernandez penalty give FC Dallas a 1-0 win over Toronto FC at Pizza Hut Park – MLS news
Major League Soccer franchise, FC Dallas, extended their unbeaten streak to four games following their 1-0 win against Toronto FC. Even though the team is on a hectic schedule, running through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744 was not a problem for them. A first-half penalty proved
decisive as the Toros grabbed the three points at the final whistle.
This was FCD’s third match in seven days and after a scoreless draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 on Saturday at RFK Stadium, this was a good comeback for the team to climb up the Western Conference table.
The Hoops were awarded the penalty kick in the first-half injury time. Skipper Denial Hernandez stepped up and converted the spot-kick to earn his side a lead that stayed intact for the remainder of the game.
The match started in a slow manner and little action was observed in the opening 20 minutes; it was a tired FCD up against a weak Toronto. FCD nearly got a goal in the 32nd
minute, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danleigh-Borman-c10189, in an effort to clear Brek Shea’s rolling attempt, slipped awkwardly and nearly scored an own goal.
The regular time remained barren of goals, but the Reds made a mistake in third minute of first-half stoppage time. Shea was tackled by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrian-Cann-c3710 pulled down Dallas defender, George
John, in the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot and Hernandez duly converted it.
Against a weary opposition, The Reds were supposed to control the ball in the second half, but it was the 2010 MLS Cup Runner-ups who kept a better part of the possession.
The best second half chance for TFC came two minutes after the restart when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Martina-c18069 was tackled by Jackson Goncalves in the penalty area. The Reds striker went down looking for a penalty but the referee was having none of it; a yellow card was awarded
instead to the Dutch forward.
The remainder of the second half was a dull affair with the Texas-based team trying to hold on to their slim lead. Even Martina’s presence in second half could not produce results for the visitors as they lost their fifth successive game at Pizza Hut Park.
The hosts improved their season form to 4-3-2 (4 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses) and move to fourth spot in the Western Conference. Winter’s men, meanwhile, remain seventh in the Eastern side.
