Denilson says he deserves Brazil call-up
Denilson Pereira Neve ('Denilson') has claimed that his good form with English Premier League club Arsenal means that he should be in line for a call-up to the Brazil national team.
The player arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2006, and under Arsene Wenger, he has grown to become a key part of the first team. He first came to Wenger’s attention after excelling for his national team at various youth levels and was part of the side that
finished second at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Peru 2005.
That prompted Wenger to snap him up from Sao Paolo’s youth system and he has flourished ever since. The 22-year-old told FIFA’s official website of his gratitude towards Wenger for helping him develop as a player.
"He’s helped me a lot, he’s a wonderful coach. I owe this club a lot, especially for the chance to have worked with him. I feel very relaxed with him. It’s not often you get a coach like him."
Now, Denilson has targeted a place in the Brazil line-up where the midfield berths are currently occupied by fellow English Premier League players Lucas Leiva, of Liverpool, and Chelsea’s Ramires Santos do Nascimento, saying that he deserves the opportunity
to show what he can do on the international stage and make his debut for the senior Brazil side.
"I think I’ve already proven myself enough to get a chance (with Brazil). The thing is, a lot of players have the same dream, such as the lads who are here in England and who are very good. Even so, I believe that it can happen for me too if I can put in
consistently good performances and really show what I can do."
