Denis Boytsov collects an easy 10-round unanimous win over Dominick Guinn – Boxing News
Denis Boytsov, the former WBO European heavyweight champion, collected an impressive unanimous decision win over his Friday night opponent Dominick Guinn, and defended his huge win streak successfully in a 10-round bout held on April 13, 2012.
Both men co-headlined the pay-per-view jointly promoted by Universum Box-Promotion and Sturm Box-Promotion and the event was headlined by the championship bout between Felix Sturm and Sebastian Zbik.
The ring for the event was stretched at Lanxess-Arena situated in Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany and the show was televised on Friday night live on almost all the major German national channels.
Denis, 26, was entering the bout with a bit disadvantage on his side. The Russian proud was entering in his career’s 31st bout and boasted an impressive resume of 30 wins with no losses at all.
In addition, Denis is ranked as the world number three heavyweight and was able to collect 25 of his wins via knockout. Despite these intimidating facts, Denis’ opponent, Dominick Guinn possessed an upper hand as far as the experience is concerned.
Guinn, 36, was entering in his 43rd bout and was able to nail 33 opponents in his career, 22 of them via knockout. The American proud, also known as ‘The Southern Disaster’, was coming from a dual loss to rookies Kubrat Pulev and Amir Mansour, the aspect
that motivated Denis since if Guinn was unable to nail newbie-level pugilists, how can he collect a win over him.
Denis only faced the height and experience disadvantage and during the bout he easily overcame the two deficiencies and outwitted Guinn in almost all the parameters of the sport.
A bird’s eye view of the 10-round bout shows that the battle was a dull one since both men moved cautiously and did not strive hard to knock the other one out. A bit credit also goes to Dominick, who after absorbing the initial battering, successfully made
a comeback and though did not threw many well-targeted jabs yet defended himself impressively.
The bout ended and from the looks of it, the result was obvious that Denis has emerged victorious. Even the score cards exhibited a win with a huge margin for the young lad. Two of the three designated judges gave 100-90 to Denis whereas the third one awarded
99-91 to the Russian lad.
With this win Denis has moved another step closer to become the number one contender for the apex heavyweight title and might possibly is close to the realisation of his dream of taking on any one of the Klitschko brothers.
On the other hand, Guinn needs to rethink that if he wants to continue brawling he must change his tactics otherwise retirement will be the best option. The current loss is the American’s ninth career loss and the third in last five bouts.
