Denis Istomin, Dudi Sela proceed to the round of 16 – Delray Beach International 2012
Denis Istomin ousts Matthew Ebden 6-2, 6-3
World number 51, Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, outclassed Matthew Ebden of Australia in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to move to the second round at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in Florida, USA on Monday. It took
Istomin only an hour and eight minutes to oust his opponent from the competition.
It didn’t take too much for Istomin to take the lead, as he snatched a break from Ebden in the fourth game and held his next serve to go up 4-1. The Uzbek won his opponent’s game again in the eighth, clinching the opener 6-2.
The second set started steadily with both players holding their serves in the first seven games to take the score to 4-3 in Istomin’s favour. The Uzbek hit the blow in the eighth and capitalised on it to win it 6-3.
Istomin committed five double faults but Ebden’s statistics were poorer as he hit seven of them. The Uzbek managed to evade all the seven break threats he came across and benefited from three of the six of his own in this first
round match.
The Moscow, Russia resident will play either fourth seed Andy Roddick or Philipp Petzschner of Germany in the second round.
Dudi Sela beats Denis Kudla 6-4, 6-3
Dudi Sela of Israel downed wild card entrant Denis Kudla in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. The world number 75 took an hour and 11 minutes to go past his opponent in a one-sided contest.
Sela was quick to strike as he made a breakthrough in the very first game. The Israeli kept dominating and increased his lead to 5-2. Kudla responded by breaking back in the eighth game and holding his serve in the ninth. However,
the American was unable to restrict Sela anymore, dropping the first set 4-6.
The Israel was in complete control of the match, losing just two points in the first four games of the second set to grab a 3-1 lead. Serving to stay in the contest at 3-5, Kudla failed in holding his serve and lost it 3-6.
Sela struck two aces but hit the same number of double faults. The Tel Aviv, Israel resident bagged ten of the 29 first and 13 of the 23 second return points in the match.
The 5ft 9in tall is drawn to lock horns with either Jarkko Nieminen of Finland or second seed, Marin Cilic of Croatia, in the round of 16.
