Denisa Allertova stuns Anastasiya Vasylyeva to reach semis – Antalya ITF 2012
Czech qualifier, Denisa Allertova, surprised everyone after upsetting the top seed, Anastasiya Vasylyeva, in straight sets at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Friday. She notched up a 6-3, 6-3 victory against the Ukrainian to power into the final four at this outdoor clay court tournament taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
The underdog unleashed tremendous skills to outclass Vasylyeva in their first encounter. After recording the victory in one hour and a half hour, Allertova secured a spot in the final four at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place from 3rd to 9th December.
The 19-year-old assertively entered the Go Tennis Academy. Allertova smoothly held her serves until she levelled the scores at 3-3. After this, the Czech moved up a gear and reeled off following three games, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three. She dusted away all three breakpoints she encountered and converted one out of two break chances to her advantage.
Ranked 624th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Allertova carried her rhythm in the following set. She got the coveted break early in the set and then held her composure, eventually registering a 6-3 victory. The qualifier cashed the lone break opportunity and blocked the only breakpoint she came across.
Allertova made her career highlight by making a quarter-final berth at the Prague ITF last season. However, she lost her track and failed to reach far in big ITF tournaments.
The qualifier will face off the Belgian contender, Marie Benoit, who battled past the Romanian qualifier, Ilka Csoregi, in three sets to set up this meeting.
The Swedish qualifier, Ellen Allgurin, will join Allertova in the last four. She trashed the Romanian qualifier, Ioana Loredana Rosca, in straight sets to progress.
Allgurin lost her serve once but broke her rival’s serve four times to formulate a 6-2, 6-4 score line in almost one hour and 15 minutes. She dominated throughout the match and comfortably inched closer towards the title.
The Swede will next face the Serbian challenger, Natalija Kostic, who crippled the French qualifier, Clothilde De Bernardi with a breadstick in around 50 minutes.
