Denisa Allertova triumphs over Natalija Kostic to lift the crown – Antalya ITF 2012
Czech qualifier, Denisa Allertova, battled past the Serbian challenger, Natalija Kostic, in a three-set epic at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Monday. She nudged up a 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 victory against the world number 464 to grab the title at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
The underdog showed spectacular tennis skills to shock Kostic in their first encounter. She made a slow start and eventually lost the opening set at this outdoor clay court event. However, the Czech remained focused and ultimately registered the victory
with a breadstick.
The 18-year-old made quick in-roads at the Go Tennis Academy. She smoothly held her entire serves with conviction and got the breakthrough in the end, eventually sealing the opener by winning seven games to five. Kostic brushed off both breakpoints she came
across and converted one out of three break chances to her advantage.
Allertova made a fitting reply in the following set. She got the crucial break in the opening game and took the initial lead. Despite losing her edge in the very next game, the Czech remained calm and held her proceeding serves with self-assurance. The qualifier
capitalised on another break chance in the last game and eventually clicked the equaliser with a 7-5 win. She brushed off two out of three breakpoints she faced and marked two out of five break opportunities to get back in contention.
Ranked 625th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Allertova went out of control in the deciding set. After Kostic held her serve in the second game, the Czech reeled off five games in a row and clinched the decider with a breadstick. She was never threatened
with any breakpoint and cashed two out of four break chances to achieve her goal.
The 19-year-old displayed her best tennis at this event. She cruised past her entire opponents with bagels to secure a place in the main draw.
In the main draw, the Czech lost only a single set in her opening match en route to the title-round. She also stunned top seed Anastasiya Vasylyeva in straight sets in the quarter-finals.
