Deniz Khazaniuk stuns Katharina Lehnert to enter semis – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Eighth seed, Deniz Khazaniuk from Israel, tumbled the German challenger, Katharina Lehnert, with a breadstick at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Thursday. She penned down a 6-2, 6-1 victory against the German to power into the final four at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place from 10th to 16th December in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Israeli starlet displayed flawless tennis to outrun the fourth seed in their first meeting. After earning the glory in less than an hour, Khazniuk convincingly advanced into the final four at this outdoor hard court tournament.
Khazaniuk assertively entered the Rama Garden Sport Complex. After Lehnert held her serve in the fourth game, the lower seed unleashed her skills and wiped out the last four games. She was never challenged with any barrier and converted two out of three
break chances to her advantage, ultimately bagging the set with a 6-2 win.
Ranked 513th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Khazaniuk carried her rhythm in the following set. She got the coveted break in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. After the higher ranked contestant came on the score
sheet in the fourth game, the Israeli went berserk again and subsequently clinched the set with a breadstick. She fended off the only breakpoint she came across and cashed both break chances to earn the glory.
Next in line for Khazaniuk is the Chinese contestant, Yafan Wang, The Chinese triumphed over Japan’s Mana Ayukawa in straight sets to progress. She nudged up a 6-4, 6-4 victory in almost one hour and 15 minutes to set up this meeting.
The Ukrainian qualifier, Oleksandra Korashvili, will join the Israeli in the final four. She trashed Hong Kong’s Ho Ching Wu with a breadstick in less than an hour to advance. Korashvili kept her entire serves with conviction and broke her rival’s serve
four times to clobber a 6-2, 6-1 score line.
Next in line for Korashvili is the fifth seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk. The local seed upset second seed, Wing-Yau Venise Chan, in a three-set thriller to progress.
