Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Chen Long crushes Lee Chong Wei to claim Men’s Singles title
China’s young shuttler, Chen Long flew home by swelling with pride as he has claimed the Men’s Singles title after crushing the World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, at Odense, Denmark, on
Sunday, October 23.
The World Number Three Long proved that his win over Chong Wei in the final of the last month’s Japan Open Super Series was not a fluke as he has registered another victory over the top seed in a scintillating fashion.
The Chinese played incredible badminton in the title match of the Denmark Open and won the title to prove that he will be the major contender in the 2012 London Olympics. He finished up the match in straight games by working for 49 minutes in the court.
Chong Wei was clearly lacking the finishing touch in his shots and lost the match without taking a game from the top seed. He played confused game in both games as his rival remained in complete control of the pace throughout the match.
In the opening set, both shuttlers played fast and attacking badminton but the Chinese was impressive in finishing the rallies. He was quicker in all areas of the court and missed no chance to earn points. Chong Wei was playing under pressure and failed
to find a winning momentum throughout the game.
Long remained ahead of the top seed in the whole set as he played flawless game. His impressive smashes landed in the perfect areas and his incredible net play spared no chance for the Malaysian to come back in the game. The Chinese won the first game with
a convincing margin of 21-15.
In the second game, Chong Wei worked well in the initial points as he accelerated his speed to tackle the aggression of the Chinese. The score progressed closely until the concluding part when the Chinese played dominating game and won the set with a margin
of 21-18.
This title match ended up in the favour of aggressive Chinese, who claimed the title by winning it in 49 minutes with a 21-15 and 21-18 score on the board.
