Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Jan O Jorgensen beats Du Pengyu in pre-quarter-final
Denmark’s second seed Jan O Jorgensen have stamped his supremacy over China’s Du Pengyu in the Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, at Odense, Denmark, on Thursday, October 20.
The World Number 13, Jorgensen played to his maximum skills and thrashed his higher ranked opponent in a superbly fought three-set match. The World Number Eight Pengyu failed to make his mark over the local opponent and lost the third game without any considerable
fight.
The opening set went in the favour of the Chinese who was everywhere in the court. However, the Danish shuttler won the second game with a narrow margin after a tough fight. The third game was a completely one-sided fight when Jorgensen showed no mercy to
the Chinese and won the game with a huge margin.
In the first set, Pengyu played terrific badminton and showed no respect to his opponent in the whole game. His impressive speed and accuracy maintained pressure on Jorgensen throughout the set. The Danish failed to get rid of the attacking game of the Chinese
and lost the set without any fight with a huge difference of 11-21 in just 17 minutes.
The second game of the match was breath-taking for the local crowd when the score progressed equally. Jorgensen played positive and attacking game in this set against the Chinese who failed to get lead this time. At the end of the second game, the local
shuttler played controlled game and won the set with a margin of 23-21 in 29 minutes.
In the third set, the Danish outclassed the Chinese by playing flawless badminton. He controlled the rallies from the start and maintained a wonderful lead in the whole set. Pengyu completely failed to continue playing positive badminton in the whole game.
The attacking play of Jorgensen earned him win in the final set with a superb margin of 21-10 in 17 minutes. The overall margin of this 63-minute battle was 11-21, 23-21 and 21-10.
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Jorgensen will take on another Chinese shuttler, Chen Long, who defeated Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the round-of-16.
