Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Lee Chong Wei advances to meet Chen Long in Men’s Singles final
Malaysia’s top seed Lee Chong Wei advances to meet China’s Chen Long in the Men’s Singles final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will take place today in Denmark.
In the semi-final, the World Number One Chong Wei proved his superiority over Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade on Saturday, October 22, at the indoor arena in Odense, Denmark.
Chong Wei, who has recently turned to 29, played wonderful badminton and won the battle in straight sets after a mouth-watering fight against the all time best shuttler Peter Gade. The Danish played wonderful badminton in front of his home crowd and put
up a strong show in his last Denmark Open.
It was a clash of the giants as both shuttlers have extensive experience of playing at international level. In the opening set of the match, both shuttlers remained close until the final points. They employed their elite skills to establish a lead over each
other but failed until the ending points when the Malaysian managed to win the set with a narrow margin of 21-19.
In the second set, the fight became more intense as the Danish was playing with aggression. The score progressed closely. Nobody could manage even a small lead until the ending points of the game when the top seed got a chance and took two points to win
the set with a tight score of 23-21. The overall result of this match was 21-19 and 23-21.
After the match, Chong Wei said, “I’ve had easy matches against Peter in the past but not today. This is his last Denmark Open and the home crowd was really supporting him and he did well.”
He further added, “I almost cracked under pressure – especially in the second game. I made some terrible mistakes but, fortunately, I managed to hang on.”
In the title match, Chong Wei will take on Chen Long who registered an easy win over Japan’s Sho Sasaki in the other semi-final of the event.
Chong Wei, who has recently suffered defeat from Long in the final of the Japan Open Super Series, is determined to take revenge this time.
