Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan reach in Men’s Doubles semi-final
Indonesia’s ruling Olympic Champions, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan are through to Men’s Doubles semi-final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series. The duo defeated the fourth seeded pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea in the quarter-final
on Friday, October 21.
The World Number Seven Kido and Setiawan are on the right track towards glory in the tournament as they displayed their superb skills and won the three-set thrilling battle which took 52 minutes of attacking badminton from both sides.
Kido and Setiawan failed to play well in the first set and lost it with a six-point difference. However, they came back and levelled the match by winning the following set with a tight margin. The deciding game also progressed in the similar fashion and
the Indonesians won it with a narrow difference by playing to their full potential.
The Koreans got an early advantage by setting up a good lead in the first half. Their powerful smashes and superb blocking at the net destroyed the defence of the Indonesians.
Kido and Setiawan worked really hard but failed to stop the aggressive run of the Koreans and lost the set with a 15-21 score on the board.
The following set grabbed the interest of the local crowd when both pairs put up a fabulous show of fast badminton throughout the second game. They progressed equally and entered into the ending phase of the set without managing any gap. Nevertheless, the
Indonesians played well in the end and took the game with a 22-20 margin.
The deciding game was also nail biting when both sides kept on snapping each other’s heels. They showed no mercy to each other and missed no chance to earn points until the end of the third set.
Kido and Setiawan managed to produce some wonderful shots in the end and won the set with a 21-19 score. The end result of this match was 15-21, 22-20 and 21-19.
In the Men’s Doubles semi-final, Kido and Setiawan will take on another Korean pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae.
