Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Peter Hoeg Gade beats Viktor Axelsen in the quarter-final
Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade has proved that he still has power in his legs to maintain his superiority over Danish youngsters as he defeated his younger compatriot Viktor Axelsen in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series,
at Odense, Denmark, on Friday, October 21.
Peter Gade, who is currently World Number Four, has been playing remarkable badminton in all previous events of current year and continues his impressive run as he has reserved a semi-final place in the home event. Axelsen played well but not enough to beat
his higher ranked compatriot and lost the match in three sets.
In the first game, Peter Gade played his usual game by controlling the bird throughout the game. His extraordinary anticipation coupled with perfect execution of strokes helped him to establish an early lead in the game.
Axelsen tried to maintain his speed but failed to control the bird which helped his rival to take the opening set with a decent score of 21-15 by consuming 21 minutes in the court.
In the second set of the match, both players entertained the home fans by playing terrific badminton. Axelsen played elevated game in this set as he remained positive and progressed closely against the senior opponent.
The score entered into the ending phase when Peter Gade made a crucial mistake and lost the set to Axelsen with a dramatic margin of 22-24, in 27 minutes.
In the final set, Peter Gade controlled the rallies from the starting points by working well at the net. He is one the best shuttlers who are expert at playing spinning net shots with wonderful accuracy. He employed his same skill and got a considerable
advantage over his team-mate.
Peter Gade continued playing attacking game in the whole set and won it with a one-sided margin of 21-12 by taking 17 minutes in the court. The overall result of this 65-minute match was 21-15, 22-24 and 21-12.
In the semi-final, Peter Gade will take on the top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who thrashed China’s Chen Jin in the other quarter-final.
