Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Tai Tzu Ying beats Saina Nehwal in Women’s Singles round-of-16
Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying proves her mettle as she defeated the higher ranked Saina Nehwal of India in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, at Odense, Denmark, on Thursday, October 20.
The World Number 18 Tzu Ying played surprising badminton against the World Number Four Saina, who was also the fourth seed in the Women’s Singles main draw of the Denmark Open. The Taipei shuttler played to her full potential and finished up the straight-set contest in 36 minutes.
In both sets of the match, the Taipei lady remained in complete control of the game as she spared no chance for the Indian to dominate the game. Saina played well in the first game of the match and remained close but failed the finish up well and lost the set. She lost the second game without any fight in the second set.
In the first set, both shuttlers opened the game in a quick way and remained close. Saina was relying on her net play while Tzu Ying was employing powerful smashes on both sides of her higher ranked challenger. Until the break, Saina was behind her opponent, who was playing at her best.
After the one-minute interval, the Indian played different game but Tzu Ying was ready to return the bird from all areas of the court. The Taipei shuttler remained positive in the whole game and managed to win the opening set with a tight margin of 21-19 by taking 20 minutes in the court.
In the second set, Tzu Ying established a wonderful lead in the opening points of the match. Until the break, the Taipei lady established a remarkable lead against the Indian, who lost her focus in the match.
After the break, the Tzu Ying remained on the right track as she played fast and accurate game. Her anticipation was incredible as she took all strokes quite early and made Saina moving around in all corners of the court.
Tzu Ying won the second set with a big margin of 21-13 in 16 minutes. The match ended up with a 21-19 and 21-13 score on the board.
