Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Wang Shixian guns out Ji Hyun Sung at quarter-final stage
China’s talented shuttler Wang Shixian continued her smooth ride as she has defeated Korea’s Ji Hyun Sung in the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, in Denmark, on Friday, October 21.
Shixian, the former World Number One and current number two played composed and planned game and won the battle without facing much trouble from her Korean opponent. She finished up the fight in straight games after working hard for 48 minutes in the court.
The Chinese is one of the best players in the world of badminton as she is complete in all aspects of the game. Her superb drives and perfectly placed powerful smashes always earn her advantage over all opponents in the court.
Shixian demonstrated the same skills in the quarter-final battle against the Korean and got the desired result as she emerged as the winner in straight games. Ji Hyun had no answer to the flawless game of her higher ranked opponent and crashed out in two
sets.
In the opening game, Shixian played in a relaxed way as she remained defensive for a few rallies. She executed safe strokes to find a good flow and remained successful in getting upper hand over her opponent. Until the break, Shixian established a small
lead by playing a focused game.
After taking rest for 60 seconds, the second seeded Chinese continued her domination in the game by keeping the pace of the rallies at the maximum level. The finishing touch in the strokes of the Chinese helped her to clinch the opening set with a five-point
advantage of 21-16 by taking 23 minutes in the court.
In the second set, the match became interesting when the Korean played aggressive badminton and remained close until the opening half of the set. However, Shixian controlled the game by becoming fast in the front-court area and won the second game with a
decent difference of 21-18 in 25 minutes.
The Chinese won the 48-minute battle in straight sets with a 21-16 and 21-18 margin.
In the semi-final, Shixian will face the team-mate and World Number Three, Wang Xin of China, who defeated the compatriot Xuerui Li at the top-8 stage.
