Denmark Open Premier Super Series: Wang Xin crushes Xuerui Li to enter in Women’s Singles semi-final
The World Number Three Wang Xin of China proves her superb skill as she has booked her berth in the Women’s Singles semi-final after crushing her team-mate Xuerui Li in the quarter-final of the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, in Denmark, on Friday,
October 21.
Xin, who is the third seed in the Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament, displayed a phenomenal show of quality badminton against the lower ranked compatriot and won the fight in two sets by working hard for just 29 minutes.
Xuerui failed to stop her higher ranked team-mate in both games as she could not maintain her speed and lost control of the rallies. Her defensive approach helped his higher ranked challenger to win the match in straight games.
In the opening set of this quarter-final contest, both country-mates played tremendous game and remained close in the initial points. However, Xuerui played a few negative strokes which helped Xin to set up a reasonable lead in the early points.
Xin was playing with precision and manipulating all weaknesses of Xuerui in the first half of the set. She established a comfortable gap until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the Xin missed no chance to stretch her lead by winning one point after the other. Her shot selection and speed made the difference between both ladies. Xin took advantage in the match by winning the first game with a wonderful score
of 21-13 in just 14 minutes.
In the second game of the match, Xuerui played different badminton but her opponent was ready for it. Xin was taking the bird quite early and her impressive smashes were landing on both sides of her opponent. The third seed remained ahead of her team-mate
in the entire second set.
The perfect play of Xin helped her to take the second game with a good margin of 21-15 in 15 minutes. The overall score of this 29-minute straight-set fight was 21-13 and 21-15.
In the semi-final showdown, Xin will take on the second seed Wang Shixian, who defeated Ji Hyun Sung of Korea in the other quarter-final.
