We are soon relocating from San Diego, California to Copenhagen, Denmark. We are trying to determine if this can work for us. We are a family of 6 (4 children under 10).

Are under-aged children a tax break in Denmark?

  1. No, under-age children are not a tax break in Denmark. Denmark operates with something, which directly translated is called "child-money", where every quarter each family receives a certain amount of money per child from the government. I'm not sure if this applies to Danish citizens only or for all Danish residents. I believe it's the latter, though.

I'm adding a link with general information that you might find helpful if you're planning to move to Denmark.

EDIT: I looked it up for you. You can get the "child money" if you're the child's legal guardian, pay full taxes in Denmark (just one of the parents doing this is enough), and live in Denmark.

There are no income limits for this benefit.

    The rates for 2008 are:

Babies for 0-2 years old: 3.768 kr. every quarter

Young children 3-6 years old: 3.198 kr. every quarter

Older children 7-17 years old: 2.516 kr. every quarter
