Denmark brushed aside Indonesia on Saturday, May 28, in the semi-final to face China in the final showdown of the Sudirman Cup, which will take place on Sunday, May 29.
Denmark’s veterans defeated Indonesia’s young shuttlers with a margin of 3-1.
In the opening match of the Mixed Doubles category, Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer Nielsen earned the first point for Denmark by beating Pia Zebadiah Bernadet and Fran Kurniawan of Indonesia in a rubber-set game with a 15-21, 21-11 and 21-13 score
on the board.
In the next fight in the Men’s Singles category, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark proved his superiority over Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in a straight-set match by a difference of 21-18 and 21-16. Peter, who is 34 years of age, proved that he is still the best
in the business.
In the Men’s Doubles fight, Indonesia’s pair of Mohd Ahsan and Alven Yulianto thrashed the World Number One Danish pair of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, in a straight game by a 23-21 and 21-17 score.
Denmark’s Tine Baun earned the precious point against Adriyanti Firdasari of Indonesia in the Women’s Singles battle. The Danish shuttler played top quality badminton against the confused Indonesian and clinched the match by a big difference of 21-13 and
21-13.
After winning the match against Indonesia, Peter said, “It's a dream for all the players, the coaches and the Danish association to get to the final, it's a really big thing.”
While talking about their match in the final against China, Peter said, “We have everything to win and nothing to lose in the final. The pressure is on China. They cannot lose to a small nation like Denmark, with old guys like me. So we are just going to
enjoy it, fight for every rally, for every shuttle, and hope we can shake them.”
The final will be a superb battle as both teams have world-class shuttlers who possess huge experience in international badminton. The title match between Denmark and the defending champion, China, will be a great show for the local crowd at the Qingdao,
which is a coastal city in China.
