Denmark ousts England in the semi-final of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011
In the semi-final match of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011, Denmark proved their superiority after they ousted England at Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 19.
The Danish shuttlers won a classic battle against the English team in a three hours match. The final score of the semi-final was 3-1. Denmark has already won this title for the last eight consecutive times and still is confident to continue the winning streak
to prove their supremacy in badminton, in Europe.
The opening battle of the match was the Women’s Singles, where the Danish girl, Tine Baun, defeated Sarah Walker of England, in a straight-set fight of 22 minutes. Tine started the game with a convincing style, as she pushed her opponent in all corners of
the court and grabbed the game by a remarkable score of 21-8. The girl from England remained unable to comeback even in the second set and could score only 7 points, when compared to her opponent’s 21. The Danish player won the match by 21-8, 21-7.
The second battle of the semi-final match of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011 was the Men’s Singles encounter, where Jan Ø. Jørgensen from Denmark struggled against English shuttler, Rajiv Ouseph. It was an enthralling fight of three-sets, which
took 50 minutes of hard labour from both sides. In the first set, the Danish player remained at his best throughout the game and won it by a clear difference of 21-13.
The second game was a reverse of the first set, as the English player made a strong comeback and clinched the second set by 21-11. The third and final set showed the skills of the Danish shuttler, as he won the final game by a huge margin of 21-12, making
it a 21-13, 11-21, and 21-12 victory over the Englishman.
The third match was in the category of Women’s Doubles. Danish shuttlers, Christina Pedersen and Kamilla Ryter Juhl thrashed the English pair of Jennifer Wallwork and Gabrielle White in a straight-set fight. In the opening game, the Danish players started
to build pressure on their English opponents and won the set by 21-14 margin.
The second set was almost similar to the first game, as the Danish ladies once again dominated by driving the rallies. The pair of England had no answer to the hard to return smashes and strong pushes of their opponents. The Danish players won the match
in 39 minutes with a 21-14, 21-16 score on the board.
The fourth match of the semi-final competition of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011, which was also the final, was in the Men’s Doubles category. It was undoubtedly the best battle of the day, as the World Number One Danish pair of Mathias Boe and
Carsten Mogensen defeated the English pair of Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis, in a longest match of the event that lasted for 73 minutes.
The opening game was a thrilling fight between both parties and the score remained equal until 27-27, where the English pair scored the rest of the two points in a row and won the first game. The second set was also a close fight, however, this time the
shuttlers of Denmark won the game by 21-19.
In the third set, the Danish duo played better badminton in the ending-half of the game and won the third and final set by 21-17 margin. The final score of the Men’s Doubles match was 27-29, 21-19, 21-17.
