http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Denmark-c2884 v Guernsey – Semi-Final of the European Championship Division One – Match Recap
Denmark overcame http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jersey-c41001, on July 23, 2011.
Michael Pedsersen, the Danish skipper, won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision which bore fruit for the side later on.
Guernsey’s opening batsman and bowler, Lee Savident led the new-ball attack alongside Jamie Nussbaumer, as Danish openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Frederik-Andreas-Klokker-c58029 and Shehzad Ahmed took the crease.
The Guernsey attack could not attain much as the Danish openers took a flying start. Klokker was the first to go back when first-change bowler, Jeremy Frith had him edge one to the keeper, Tom Kimber. Klokker had started really well, accumulating 27 off
23 balls with a strike rate of 117.
Danish skipper, Pedersen joined Shehzad Ahmed after Klokker’s demise; however, the skipper was unable do much for his side as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-J-Rich-c58512 clean bowled him on 10 off 11, leaving Denmark on 79/2.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-Ali-Mazhar-Shah-c61330 was the next man in, hoping to craft a partnership with opener Shehzad Ahmed; however, Shehzad, nearing his fifty, was unluckily caught by Kris Moherndl off the bowling of Rich. Shehzad fell just 10 runs short of a well deserved 50. His knock
included three boundaries and one six.
Rizwan Mehmood then joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-c61327 on the crease, picking up from 86/3. The pair could only share an 15-run partnership before Hamid was caught by Smit, off Frith. He managed to add 12 runs to his team’s total, off 17 balls.
Aftab Ahmed was the last man from the Danish side to enter the arena, as he, alongside Rizwan, remained unbeaten till the end of 20 overs.
The duo shared a valuable 35-run partnership to take their side’s total to 136. Rizwan contributed 20 runs in total, while Aftab scored a quick 18 off 10.
A total of four wickets fell in the Danish innings, as Gary Rich and Jeremy Frith claimed a brace each.
Coming on to bad, Guernsey had to chase 137 for victory, in 20 overs.
Tim Ravenscroft and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bashir-Shah-c47447 opened the bowling attack for Denmark.
The first wicket fell in the 3rd over, as Savident was sent packing by Anjum, clean bowled on one run. Wicketkeeper batsman, Tim Kimber then joined Ravenscroft and the pair managed to add 13 runs before Ravenscroft was dismissed in the 5th
over, leaving Guernsey on 31/2.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jeremy-David-John-Frith-c66866, Smit and Ross Kneller, added a total of 11 runs to the total. Right-arm off-break
bowler, Bashir Shah was the man responsible, as he bagged four scalps in his 3.2 overs.
With the exception of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kristoffer-B-Moherndl-c71778 and Ravenscroft, no other batsman could score into double figures. Guernsey finally collapsed in the 19th over, barely managing a 78-run total in the 137-run chase.
Danish skipper, Pedersen, opening bowler Bashir Shah and all-rounder Hamid Shah returned with wickets for their sides, bagging 4, 2 and 2 respectively.
Denmark advanced to the next stage after a stellar bowling display, literally crushing the Guernsey side, in what was an embarrassing batting display by them.
