Denmark vs Senegal van Persie to regain lost glories
Back in 1997 Denmark was a football power house. Put any team in front of them and they could thrash them easily and get a much deserved win. They were ranked 3rd then but now, they have dropped in the FIFA standings to 35th. This has been due to passing of a football generation and they look like they are out to regain their lost glories. They qualified for the cup finals in South Africa and are looking to keep their title hopes by taking on the Senegalese to keep fit.
Morten Olsen, the Danish coach is given full credit to bring the team to its current standings. Now, they are heading to South Africa with everything at stake and all possibilities mapped out for them. They are in the same group with the Netherlands, Cameroon, and Japan. This group is very competitive and well matched. If they want to proceed to the next rounds they have to play hard against Cameroon. This is not going to be an easy task.
The Cameroon team is expected to go far. They definitely do not want to let go of their cup title hopes slip in their own continent. The Dutch are playing at the top of their game and van Persie is playing very well. Denmark has more friendlies to go through before the World Cup starts. They are facing the hosts South Africa before the curtains open to the biggest show in the world. The Australians famously known as the “socceroos” are next in line and Denmark is going to be in their best form against these teams.
Senegal has nothing to look forward to as the world cup is concerned. Nicknamed the “Lions of Teranga” they will have to go back to the drawing board and see what to do to regain their form which made them eliminate the French team in the last World Cup. They are coming into this match with little confidence and a win will count more than ever in alleviating their morale. They never featured in the Africa Cup of Nations and this goes to say they have given up their place as the kings of soccer in Africa to the likes of Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon.
Head to Head analysis
The last time the Danish and Senegalese teams met in the same play field was in 2002 world cup and the match did not do much to decide who was the best in the encounter because the match ended with a 1-1 draw. Much has changed since then; Denmark seems to be doing better than their counterparts.
Betting Tips
Denmark is coming into this match as the clear favorites and are looking to make this an extra thrilling encounter .The bookies are offering an odd of about 1.62 for Denmark to win. a draw is pegged at 3,75 and a win for Senegal is about 5.50. Senegal are coming into this encounter as the under dogs and are not going to let the Danish walk all over them. The Danish ream is a talented team but the Senegalese have a good striking force too. A draw could be more than possible in this encounter having in mind the type of football these teams display on the pitch.
