Denmark’s Camilla Ulrikkeholm defeats Nicole Souter of Australia to win Lysekil Women’s Match 2011
Camilla Ulrikkeholm from Denmark clinched the title of Lysekil Women’s Match 2011 after defeating Australia’s Nicole Souter in the final. She won all three races of the final against Souter and also
earned €10,300 worth of prize money. The Danish sailor sailed brilliantly throughout the tournament and remained undefeated since the round robin matches until the end of the event.
Thousands of sailing fans watched the final races between Ulrikkeholm and Souter, standing on the cliffs around the racing area in Lysekil on Swedish west coast. The ideal weather conditions made
the race more thrilling and the crowd enjoyed watching it.
Speaking to the local media after her marvelous victory over the Australian by the scoreline of 3-0, Ulrikkeholm said, “It wasn’t as easy as the results may show. We won the races on better boat handling
when there was more wind.”
Meanwhile, Souter commented, “We made some silly mistakes when we were ahead, and you can’t afford that when meeting a competitor as Ulrikkeholm. I won here two years ago and my intention is to come
back and do it again in another two years. Next year I’m going to sail match racing in the Olympics, so then I’m not available for this event.”
Souter sailed against Denmark’s Trine Abrahamsen, who gave her tough time and forced her into the decider race where Souter, luckily, finished on top to face Ulrikkeholm in the final.
