Dennis Baggett says Kia Classic to feature fearsome field
Kia Classic is going to pit fearsome contenders against each other, with the tournament Director Dennis Baggett hoping that the outcome of the event will be very surprising.
The tournament is slated to be played from March 22-25 at the La Costa Resort and Spa. The field of the event is quite formidable, as the players who have been confirmed are among the top-50.
One of the most talents players in the roster is the current world number one Yani Tseng, who is set to snatch yet another victory of this season.
In addition to the Taiwanese star, there is Michelle Wie, who is being welcomed warmly by the officials.
Since Michelle Wie inked an endorsement deal with Kia, her images and giant pictures are being used to promote the already-hyped Kia Classic.
Analysts have said that Wie’s participation may not cause a big trouble for players like Tseng, but she has what it takes to surprise the spectators.
While speaking to the media about the competitiveness of the Kia Classic, Dennis Baggett said that the roster is definitely more competitive than most of the LPGA events.
Making arrangements for the event and luring big names to grace the field has been easy for Baggett, which he himself acknowledged.
Sponsorships and media coverage had long been a problem for the LPGA, but now with new plans put in place, the Tour is gaining more attention than ever before.
According to some observers, Yani Tseng’s presence is enough to lure more spectators and money. However, using Wie’s pictures as a tool to promote the event makes more sense.
They said that showing players with various skills and characteristics is a good way to boost the image of the event and the Tour itself.
Baggett said that he is pretty happy with the field this year, as the officials have been seeking to feature players who are in the public eye.
“The strength of field is pretty awesome,” Baggett shared. “It’s cool to be able to talk about that and share it with the community and our sponsors. It’s unique. We’re able to showcase the top golfers in the world every week”.
The field set for this week’s tournament is limited to big names, as there will be a number of rising players.
