Dennis Enarson prevails in BMX Dirt Finals at Dew Tour Portland Invitational – 2011 Dew Tour
After what turned out to be a real nail-biting contest, Dennis Enarson emerged triumphant in BMX Dirt Finals at the Dew Tour Portland Invitational, the second stop of 2011 Dew Tour, which went down in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, August 14.
Despite putting up a remarkable fight till the last minute, Kyle Baldock eventually had to settle for runner-up place. Defending Dew Cup champ Brandon Dosch managed to land a podium spot after finishing in third place.
The clash for top honours in Sunday’s Finals was nothing short of epic. Despite a huge field of talented riders, the show was completely stolen by the intense battle that took place between Enarson and Baldock. Both the athletes managed to stay at par with
each other’s performances till the last run, where the fate of the contest was finally decided.
Enarson moved into lead with his first run after starting off with a trick-driver down the roll in on the first jump and following it up with a bar-spin to tuck, cannon ball to superman, tail-whip to long and low , capping his run with a 360 suicide double
truck off the final jump.
Baldock, who had unleashed a double back-flip in his first run to stay close to Enarson on the scoreboard, came up with another really impressive run to move into the lead with a combined-total score of 91.44 points.
Enarson had a daunting task ahead of him as he took to the course for his final run. Adding a few extra tricks to his run, he managed to successfully accomplish the feat of edging past Baldock’s score with 91.75 points to take the win.
Talking about his fourth run, Enarson said, “When I saw that, I was like, ‘No way. I looked at the score and we were still pretty close, so I figured if I added in a couple extra tricks it would work out. And I just barely got in front of him, so that was
sick.”
Despite losing the first place to his rival, Baldock was still pretty satisfied with his performance, especially the double flip.
“I flipped it a few times and I’m like maybe, maybe not. But being up here on the deck and seeing the runs people are doing, I knew I had to do something. So that was my first double back flip on dirt. I don’t ride dirt at all and now I made it in for the
season, so I’m so stoked,” he said, speaking of the trick.
The defending champ, Dosch, finished in third place after finishing with a combined-total of 90.62 points. Talking to a reporter after the event, he said that even though he had failed to clinch top honours, he had an amazing time on his bike and felt pretty
excited over attempting an opposite 1080, a trick that he had never tried on dirt before.
