Dennis Manuel wins the stage 2 of the La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2012
Dennis Manuel Porras Murillo wins the second stage of the La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2012 after his storming performance during the event.
He took a total time of 3 hours, 39 minutes and 26 seconds to complete the 79 kilometre chase to Turrialba, Limon on November 2nd, 2012.
Enrique Artavia Cedeno finished 1 minute and 26 seconds behind at the second position with Federico Ramirez Mendez, Paolo Cesar Montoya Cantillo and Alex Grant occupying the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
"As soon as we started climbing, it was clear that the Costa Ricans had an agenda today," said Grant.
Porras took the lead earlier on and maintained a gap over the four riders, who were eventually joined by Grant.
"At the start of the stage, I saw racers hurt from yesterday's stage," said Porras.
"Therefore my plan was to sprint from the start. I felt very strong and we started setting the pace yet not losing the calm."
Ramirez and Artavia managed to get out of sight of their fellow chasers during an attempt to catch Porras but a lead of almost 3 minute and 30 seconds close to the top was never too easy.
"I felt well recovered from yesterday," said Ramirez. "The high terrain was a good thing for me. I'm used to training at high altitude like that."
Deiber Esquivel Benavides, Moises Hernandez Amaya, Milton Ramos, Todd Wells and Jose Alfredo Montoya Alvarez achieved the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions in the respective order.
Paolo Montoya is now leading the stage 2 classifications with a healthy margin of 13 minutes and 15 seconds over Alex Grant.
Dennis Porras, Deiber Esquivel, Todd Wells, Lico Ramirez, Enrique Artavia, Milton Ramos, Moises Hernandez and Jose Montoya secured the next eight positions in the respective order.
Similarly, Monique Pua Mata wins the women category of the race after an impressive time of 4 hours, 34 minutes and 40 seconds.
Jane Rynbrandt, Genevieve Evans, Cinthya Coto Elizondo and Ligia Madrigal Moya achieved the second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Pua Mata is currently leading the women general classifications after her splendid performance during the both the opening stages of the race.
