Dennis Rodman reunites with his father after 42 years – NBA Update
After 42 years of separation, former NBA star Dennis Rodman finally met his long lost father after playing an exhibition game in the Philippines. It was moment of joy for his father Philander Rodman Jr who last met his son back
in 1969.
"It was great, I've been trying to meet him for years. And then last night, boom, I met him. I was really, really happy and very surprised," – Philander said on the occasion.
Philander had tried to meet his son back in 2006 when Rodman was playing another exhibition game in Manila but was unable to do so as Dennis did not even want to hear his father’s name. However in a press conference on Tuesday,
Dennis invited his father to watch the exhibition game between NBA Alumni and Philippine Basketball Association’s former players.
Dennis took part in the game along with Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and Mitch Richmond, and after the win, both father and son had a small interaction, one which left the 71 year old Philander very excited.
"I really, really felt good," he said. "It's the beginning of something new." – Philander
Philander has spent nearly 50 years in Philippines and has been running a restaurant by the name of Rodman's Rainbow Obamaburger. He has been a long time fan of his son’s experimentation with his hair and in his cafe; he has burgers
made in multiple coloured buns - red, yellow and green being the most prominent.
It was an exciting moment for Dennis as well who went on to acknowledge his father presence in the Arena by taking the microphone and pointing him out among the fans in the closing stages of the game.
"He accepted me as his father. That's the first time he ever called me his father," – Philander
While speaking to the reporters Dennis revealed that he considers his father to be a friend.
"I don't hate the guy that brought me into this world," Dennis Rodman said. "The fact is, if I saw him, I'll just tell him, 'You know, you're a friend of mine.' "
Start of something new for the bad boy of NBA, may be.
