Dennis Taylor hails Judd Trump as the greatest potter ever
Dennis Taylor, who is famously known for his big glasses and for winning the 1985 World Snooker Championship, believes Judd Trump is the greatest potter he has ever seen in the game of snooker.
Speaking in an interview, Taylor told reporters he had never seen a player with so much cue power since John Spencer, Ray Reardon and Alex Higgins. The Irish also added that the shots Trump had displayed at the Crucible Theatre could not be taught to anyone,
as they were naturally gifted to Trump.
Dennis told the media “We’ve all played a lot of those shots in exhibitions but Judd takes his practice game into the main arena. Not many players have been able to do that down the years. It really is refreshing to see.”
Taylor went on to add, “Everybody in snooker is talking about him: the former players and my co-commentators. He’s brought an excitement to us. We have all taken him to our hearts. He’s a modest young fellow but he plays the flash shots. He creates a buzz
when he’s around the place.”
The Bristolian Ace potter, Trump might have lost to Higgins in the final of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, but he has grabbed more attention than any other player during the course of seventeen days. He also impressed everyone with his
safety shots as he, at a certain stage, led the current World Number 1, John Higgins, in that department.
Higgins, who recently lifted his fourth Crucible Crown, also admired the talent of his 21-year-old opponent. He said, “Judd’s potting frightened me to death.”
He also admitted in the post-match interview that he had beaten ‘a multiple future World Champion.’
It can undoubtedly be said that Judd Trump has a very bright future in the game and he can go on to win many titles, as he is just 21. He has already become the second youngest player ever to reach a Crucible final since Stephen Hendry, who achieved the
same feat in 1990.
