Dennis Taylor insists Ronnie O’Sullivan should stay and try to beat Stephen Hendry’s record
One of the top dogs of snooker, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan played outstandingly in the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship against the Captain, Ali Carter and easily triumphed over him by the score line of 18-11.
Before going into the final encounter, the Rocket hinted his retirement from World Snooker after the Championship but after winning the mega event, he decided to stay in the professional circuit.
Meanwhile, the former World Snooker Champion and veteran potter, Dennis Taylor believes that the Rocket should not think about retiring from snooker right now because he is still not that old to retire from the game.
Furthermore, he reckoned that O’Sullivan is one of those potters who can break Stephen Hendry’s record because he is just 36-year-old and still has the energy to play at the baize with all his might.
While speaking to the media, Taylor said, “I was beginning to think that no-one older than me was ever going to win it. If anyone, I thought maybe it would be John Higgins. But if Ronnie wins it this year, that's four world titles and he's only 36 so he
could equal Stephen's record of seven. It's still on the cards.”
The veteran added, “He keeps talking about retiring but I said years ago he should have been looking at Tiger Woods trying to beat Jack Nicklaus's record and that would be the motivation he needs. If he does equal Stephen's record I would hold him up as
the greatest player who ever held a cue.”
The 2010-11 Snooker Season was not good for O’Sullivan as he was not able to perform up to the mark and tumbled down in the rankings. During his season campaign, he expressed his plans to retire from the game but he did not practically do that. At the end
of the mentioned season, the Essex Exocet visited a sports psychiatrist, Dr. Steve Peters and acted on his advice.
With Dr. Peters beside him, the 36-year-old came back with a tremendous boost in his form and put up a classy snooker show at the baize. He will now be looking for another strong run in the next snooker season which will begin with the first event of the
Players Tour Championship (PTC).
