Question:

Denon AVR-1508 - HDMI connection problem?

I will admit that, for all of the electronic toys I have, I am still technologically illiterate. What makes sense to me signal flow-wise does not seem to be logical in the world of home entertainment.

So, what has happened is that I bought a Denon AVR-1508 receiver. I hooked up all of my components to the receiver then connected the receiver to the HDTV with an HDMI cable. And, nothing... no sound, no picture.

I can't help but think it is a setting on the receiver but I am unable to find that information. Any ideas? Or, suggestions?

  1. That receiver does NOT up convert analog signals to the HDMI output.

Only devices you feed into the receiver with HDMI will be visible on the HDMI output.

  2. The reason for this is simple there is no way HDMI can convert RCA, component connections to uncompressed HDMI signal.

"Current setup: Component (grn, bl, r, y, wh, rd) from dvd to receiver, cable box to receiver, and basic (y, wh, red) from ps2 to receiver, then HDMI to tv."

****To answer the above that is why it is not working so far you have them connected correct but now you have to take another set of components and go COMPONENT OUT to the TV that way your cable rcv and dvd will work and basic (y, wh, red) you would need a second set to connect from VIDEO OUT to back of tv****

So once again the connection out the back of your DVD, CAble box, and PS2 go to the receiver and needs to be the same colored cables to the back of the TV....
