Question:

Denon DHT-487DV Home Theater Surround Sound System?

I am having an issue with the powered sub woofer of my Denon DHT-487DV Home Theater Surround Sound System. It makes popping noises several times a day. I took it to a local electronics shop and they soldered connections and fixed the power supply in the unit. It is better than it was but it still pops. I have the extra cable length looped and tied near the subwoofer. Might this cable be the cause of the pops I hear? It seems tight but it is just snuggly in the connector. There is nothing for me to tighten.

Any suggestions? It works fine except for the annoying popping.

  1. The only time i hear the popping on my sub is when I turn it on so for me it is caused by the power surge of the device being turned on. You may get power surges in your home. You may have to get a good surge suppressor and plug the subs power (and all other sensitive electronics) into that.

  2. To ISOLATE THE PROBLEM....

Disconnect the subwoofer entirely but leave it on...if it pops without it connected, it's in the subwoofer....(don't forget to disable the AUTO ON FEATURE)

If it pops with it ONLY connected, it could be the amp or the SOURCE of sound....

To isolate it to the amp or the sound source, try other sources and see if it pops....if it does, it's the amplifier, if not then it's likely the source.....

So THEN you need to get it to act up and unplug the audio cables from the suspected source of audio pop.....If it quits immediately, then the source is bad.....
